Special Olympics Sarawak Unified Sports brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team — proving that when we play together, we grow together. This program is part of the global Unified Sports movement that connects over a million participants worldwide, breaking down barriers and building lasting friendships through the joy of sports.
In Sarawak, where diversity is celebrated and community spirit runs deep, Unified Sports is more than a game — it’s a movement toward inclusion, respect, and understanding across all abilities and backgrounds.
Unified Sports in Sarawak promotes social inclusion by providing shared training and competition experiences. Athletes with and without intellectual disabilities train, compete, and celebrate victories together — creating friendships and mutual respect both on and off the field.
Teams are formed based on age and ability, ensuring fair play and exciting competition for everyone. Through sports, participants discover what unites them rather than what sets them apart — sweeping away misconceptions and building inclusive communities from Kuching to Samarahan, Sibu, Bintulu to Miri.
Special Olympics Sarawak is working to expand Unified Sports into schools and universities across the state through the Unified Champion Schools® approach. This initiative empowers students, teachers, and youth leaders to promote inclusion through Unified Sports, inclusive student clubs, and youth leadership activities.
By involving both students with and without intellectual disabilities, we are nurturing a new generation of Sarawakian youth who champion acceptance, friendship, and teamwork in all areas of life.
Unified Sports in Sarawak thrives on community partnerships — with local sports councils, schools, universities, and volunteer groups coming together to support inclusion through sport. Our athletes and partners embody the spirit of “Play Unified. Live Unified.” — showing that everyone deserves a place on the team.
Through Unified Sports, Special Olympics Sarawak champions the mission of inclusion across the state’s vibrant multicultural landscape. Together with global partners like the Lions Clubs International and local community organizations, we are building opportunities for all people — regardless of ability — to experience the joy of sport, teamwork, and belonging.
Whether on the football pitch, basketball court, or athletics track, Unified Sports reminds us that in unity, there is strength. In inclusion, there is victory.
